Construction Projects - FDOT Roadways

 I-75 at US 301 Interchange (Exit 224): Construction project: Project will widen the I-75 from SR 64 to the Manatee River, reconfigure the I-75/US 301 interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration, construct new bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp, and US 301 improvements. This week, crews will work on I-75 paving; drainage, utility, and sidewalk work on US 301; and, beam installation, and decking for the construction of the new bridgesover the Manatee River.

 

  • Nightly, from Sunday, July 14 through Thursday, July 18, crews will CLOSE the I-75 northbound exit ramp to US 301 (Exit 224) during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should follow the posted detour signs; or identify an alternate route.

     

  • Nightly, from Sunday, July 14, through Thursday, July 18, crews will CLOSE the US 301 on-ramp to I-75 northbound during the overnight hours from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Motorists should follow the posted detour signs; or identify an alternate route.

     

  • Motorists should expect double lane closures on I-75 northbound during nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the duration of the construction; double closures on I-75 southbound during the nighttime/overnight hours from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the duration of the construction.

     

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on US 301 during nighttime/overnight hoursfrom 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.through the duration of the construction.

     

  • Motorists should expect lane closures on Tidewater Preserve Boulevard through the duration of bridge construction.

     

  • Motorists should expect lane shifts on I-75 and US 301 through the duration of the construction.

     

  • Drivers should exercise caution and be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the interstate through the duration of the construction.

 

Variable message signs will be in place to alert drivers that work is underway.  Estimated completion is mid-2025.

 

US 41 Southbound ramp from 45th Street to South of US 19: Crews will begin repaving the southbound ramp and require single lane closures for the remainder of July.  Please use caution and add additional travel time. The project is only expected to last approximately two months.

 

US 41 at 69th Street in Palmetto: Permit project: From July 15 through July 18, 69th Street will be closed while crews reconstruct a portion of 69th Street east of US 41 for a convenience store. Please watch for workers and follow the posted detour route.

 

US 301 from 25th Court East to 13th Avenue East: Construction project: Crews have begun a 7.6-mile improvements project consisting of milling and resurfacing the roadway, widening in areas, base work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, guardrail, drainage improvements, bridge expansion joints, signalization, lighting, and signing and pavement marking. 

 

  • Motorists should expect shoulder closures including pedestrian access restrictions along the US 301 corridor northbound and southbound between 25th Court East and 9th Avenue East. Alternate pedestrian routes will be clearly posted. To maintain safety, pedestrians should follow the posted detour signage. 

     

  • Motorists can expect right-turn lane closures at the intersections of US 301 and Tallevast Road to 9th Avenue East from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

     

  • Motorists can expect nighttime shoulder and lane closures along US 301 for milling and resurfacing between 53rd Avenue East and 9th Avenue East. Please use caution and be aware of crews in the area.

     

  • Nighttime work will continue at the intersection of US 301 and 53rd Avenue East (SR 70) on Thursday, July 18, starting at 10 p.m. Traffic will be directed by law enforcement as the new mast arms are installed. Hold times of 15 minutes are expected as the new structures are secured. All approaches to the intersection will be affected.

 

 

The project’s expected completion is late 2024.

 

US 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road Roundabout: Permit project: This roadway project includes widening approximately 1 mile of Moccasin Wallow Road from a two-lane to four-lane (two in each direction) between U.S. 301 and 115th Avenue East, roadway drainage, signalized intersections, street lighting, pedestrian-activated crossings, multi-use path, sidewalk, bicycle lanes and construction of a roundabout at the U.S. 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road intersection.

 

The roundabout opening at Moccasin Wallow Road and U.S. 301, and westbound traffic shift on Moccasin Wallow Road in the area of 115th Avenue to U.S. 301, are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024. The dates of both traffic shifts will be subject to inclement weather over the next week. Travelers are urged to exercise caution and observe the new traffic patterns and signals, as well as construction vehicles operating within the project area.

 

SR 70 /15th Street East: Construction project:  Motorists can expect temporary flagging operations as needed through the remainder of July.

 

SR 70 from Lorraine Road to Bourneside Boulevard: Construction project: This project includes widening SR 70 from Lorraine Road to Bourneside Boulevard from a two-lane undivided roadway to a four-lane or six-lane divided roadway, depending on the location, construction of roundabouts on SR 70 at Uihlein Road, Del Webb Boulevard, and Bourneside Boulevard, intersection improvements at the existing signalized intersection of Greenbrook Boulevard and Lorraine Road, construction of four bridges over two Braden River crossing locations, new drainage system, construction of 10-foot shared use paths, street lighting, and landscaping, and installation of new fiber optic cable connecting the two signalized intersections to Manatee County’s regional Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).

 

This week, crews will continue excavating the Pond area on the southeast corner of Bourneside Boulevard and SR 70. Material will be hauled to the south side of SR 70 between Bourneside Boulevard and Lorraine Road and placed as roadway fill. Drainage work will continue on SR 70 between Bourneside Boulevard and Uihlein Road.

 

Work will continue with construction of two eastbound bridges, this will involve pouring reinforced concrete beams and grading the river channel; this work will occur during daytime hours. The eastern most eastbound bridge will have the bridge deck concrete placed during a night operation. This night work will last one night and will not impact the current traffic pattern.

 

All work will be off the roadway with no planned long term lane closures. However, it is expected that eastbound traffic will be interrupted for short periods of time throughout the day with flaggers as the dump trucks cross from east to west at the bridge locations. Please use caution and watch for trucks and construction vehicles entering or exiting the work zone throughout the construction limits. Work will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use caution and be aware of workers and flaggers in the area.

 

SR 64 at Lorraine Road South and 145th Street North: Construction: Crews have begun work on the conversion of the traffic signal to a free-flowing roundabout.

 

  • After Rye Road Roundabout, SR 64 is a single lane in each direction. Please use caution for shifting lane patterns. 

     

  • Through July 17, access to Lorraine Road from SR 64 will be closed, and Lorraine Road will be open to through traffic via 44th or SR 70.

     

    • The traffic signal at Lorraine Road is deactivated.

 

SR 64 at Bourneside Boulevard to Rangeland Parkway: Permit project: Manatee County has closed this section of Bourneside Boulevard through October. Please choose an alternate route.

 

SR 64 from 43rd Street West to 15th Street East and from 10th Street West to 10th Street East: Construction project: Construction is underway for the 1.7-mile resurfacing project through the City of Bradenton. Please use caution in the area.

 

  • Starting in July, crews should begin overnight paving in the area. Please use caution.

 

SR 64 between west of Village Green Parkway and East of 75th Street West and 69th Street: Permit project: starting July 15 through July 18, motorists can expect intermittent westbound outside lane closures and a right turn lane partly closed between Village Green Parkway and east of 75th Street W and 69th Street while the contractor is reconstructing a driveway entrance to the shopping center. Please use caution and be alert for detours and lane shifts.

 

SR 64 from East of Manatee River to Bill Parrish Road:  Crews will be making drainage improvements and replacing ditch pavement, shoulder gutter, guardrail, and signing and pavement markings.  Please be alert for lane closures and/ or flagging operations.
