Sports and Leisure is proud to offer 50 scholarships for Summer Blast Camp. This program, approved by the BOCC and Children's Advisory Board in 2024, will kick off for Summer of 2025 and provide 50 campers the opportunity to attend summer camp that would otherwise not be able to afford it. Twenty-five spots are allocated to G.T. Bray (West Campus) and twenty-five spots are set for John H. Marble (East Campus).

Q: Who is eligible for this scholarship?
A: Any family with a Manatee County residence that can show an income level at or below 200% of the Federal poverty level. Refer to the chart on the application to review by household size.
Q: What documents are required to be considered with this application?
A: A copy of a current proof of residency (a utility bill or mortgage statement from last 60 days) and your tax return summary sheet are required supporting documents with your application. *For summer 2025 only, we can accept 2023 tax summary reports, but moving forward, we will require your tax return for current tax year. In 2026, we will only accept 2025 tax summaries.
Q: When are applications due by for Summer 2025?
A: All applications must be received by April 15, 2025
Q: Is there any financial responsibility of the applicant?
A: Yes, all scholarship awardees are responsible for the $30 registration fee per child and an additional $15/week for all 10 weeks. This will total $180 per child for the summer. These fees are due by May 15
Q: Once approved, awarded, and paid can the scholarship be revoked?
A: Yes. There will be requirements the camper/family must meet for continuation of scholarship in alignment with the grant. The camper must register for all 10 weeks and be present for 80% of camp. Additionally, they must participate in the structured reading and swimming programs offered. These are to mitigate summer slide and improve water confidence.
Q: Is food supplied for campers?
A: Summer Blast Camp offers the State distributed meals at camps for those who need it.
Q: Are field trips included?
A: All "included weekly field trips" are part of the scholarship. Summer Blast Camp offers optional field trips at an extra cost. Those are not included in the scholarship.
