MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Nov. 8, 2018) – Farm City Week, the annual celebration of partnerships between rural and urban communities, is underway in Manatee County.
"Farm City Week is an opportunity to celebrate Manatee County agriculture during a season of thanksgiving," said Crystal Snodgrass, Manatee County Extension Director. "In a county with such a large agricultural presence, it is important that we band together, whether urban or rural, to recognize the contributions of our agriculturalists."
Activities kicked off yesterday when the Manatee County Agricultural Museum hosted Edible Ag, inviting locals to sample Manatee County’s agricultural products alongside museum exhibits. Today was the Soil Speech Contest for Grades 6 - 12.

Saturday, Nov. 10 — Bradenton Farmer’s Market: Farm City Week celebration, open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 4-H and FFA will participate and a piece of farm equipment will be on display.http://www.realizebradenton.com/about_the_market
Sunday, Nov. 11 — Veteran’s Day Parade: Program begins at 11 a.m. at Sutton and Lamb parks in Palmetto. The parade features a Farm City Week float with agricultural producers and committee members waving gracefully and throwing pencils to the crowd! Tuesday, Nov. 11 — A Kiwanis Luncheon celebrates Farm City Week and reveals the 2018 Agriculturalist of the Year. UF/IFAS Extension Dean, Dr. Nick Place, will be the keynote speaker. Open only to Kiwanis members and the Farm City Week Committee.
Wednesday, Nov. 14 — Leadership Manatee Agricultural Tour: 2018 Leadership Manatee participants visit local farms and meet an agricultural panel to discuss hot topics in an agriculture at lunch.
Thursday, Nov. 15 — Ag Venture: More than 1,000 3rd graders visit the Mosaic Arena at the Manatee County Fairground to learn about agriculture through hands-on experiences.
Friday, Nov. 16 — Hall of Fame Luncheon: A luncheon is held at the Woman’s Club of Palmetto to recognize the 2018 Hall of Fame inductee.
Saturday, Nov. 17 — Beef Workshop and Prospect Show will be held at the Mosaic Arena at the Manatee County Fairground. Local 4-H students planning to show cattle at the County Fair will participate in hands-on workshops.
