MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Sept. 24, 2018) — Manatee County’s Public Safety Department will host a one-day Public Safety Academy to increase awareness about what the department does and to develop a better understanding of the public’s role in Public Safety.
The academy will be held at the Manatee County Public Safety Center from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 6. Lunch will be provided. There is limited space and registration is required. Interested participants can register at https://bit.ly/PSAcademy.
Over the course of the day, attendees will have a chance to meet Public Safety leadership and tour the Public Safety Center, which houses the County’s 9-1-1 operations and serves as the Emergency Operations Center during emergency activations.
The division chiefs for Manatee County Animal Services, Beach Patrol, Community Paramedicine, Emergency Communications Center, Emergency Management and Emergency Medical Services will lead sessions that provide an inside look into their operations.
“Too often, the only interaction the general public has with Public Safety is during emergency situations,” said Public Safety Department Director Robert Smith. “We appreciate the opportunity to showcase the hard work the men and women of the Public Safety Department do every day and to shine some spotlight behind the scenes of protecting the citizens and visitors of Manatee County.”
Manatee County’s Public Safety Department has been recognized locally and internationally for its innovation and dedication. This year the department received the EMS Injury Prevention Award from the Florida Department of Health, the Public Safety Communications Technology Leadership: Small Agency Award from the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, and recognition as the Beach Patrol of the Year by the Florida Beach Patrol Chiefs Association
