Summer ConneXion bus passes make mobile ticketing a breeze for area teens this summer
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (May 15, 2019) – For the second summer in a row, working teens can use the Summer ConneXion bus pass to hop aboard an MCAT bus to get to and from work for less than 50 cents a weekday. The $25 pass allows anyone ages 19 or younger to ride on MCAT buses from June 1 - Aug. 31.
"The summer youth bus pass program is designed to improve access to training and summer employment opportunities for area youth during the summer break months," said Manatee County Transit Division Manager William Steele. "The program will benefit local organizations that assist youth in vocational training and job placement programs."
Using the free Token Transit mobile app, local agencies or family members can “send a pass” to children, dependents or teenage employees. The passenger’s Smartphone becomes a ticket to ride: The Summer ConneXion mobile ticket displays a unique picture and color that changes daily and includes the current time and countdown to expiration. Bus operators learn the daily pictures and colors of the day, and validate mobile tickets when passengers board the bus.
Summer ConneXion passes will be available on May 28. Sponsoring agencies can also purchase Summer ConneXion card stock bus passes which passengers can swipe at the farebox, instead of paying cash fare.
Purchase locations include the Downtown Bradenton and DeSoto Transit Stations, via the Token Transit mobile ticketing Smartphone application, and by mail order. Youth are required to show a valid form of identification when boarding MCAT buses using the Summer ConneXion bus pass.
