MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Oct. 18, 2019) – Manatee County and City of Palmetto officials invite the public to unveil a new seascape mural at the Palmetto MCAT station next week.

Local leaders will dedicate the “Under the Rainbow” painting on Friday, Oct. 25 at 4:30 p.m. The giant mural, painted by local artist Ron Berman, is located on the Palmetto MCAT transit station at 1802 8th Avenue in Palmetto, on the corner of Business 41 and 19th Street.

The mural was funded by an anonymous donor. City of Palmetto officials say the city is changing its identity from an agricultural community to one that also embraces the arts and the environment. New projects by the City use LED lighting to conserve energy and stormwater pavers to purify stormwater before it goes into local waterways.

“The seascape mural includes a seahorse reminiscent of the 1950’s Seahorse that was so popular in Palmetto, manatees, a grouper, dolphins, a crab, a clown fish and even captures the oyster restoration and reef ball projects,” said Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant. "A new 30-foot seahorse statue is coming soon to the south end of town and this fabulous seascape gracing the other end of town, Palmetto will be known as a City that truly cares about our waterways and the creatures within. Palmetto is actively revitalizing the charm of historic Palmetto while protecting the pristine natural resources that surround the city.”

All are welcome to share in the excitement as we unveil this beautiful artwork and learn more about the artist and the plans ahead. For more information, please contact Mayor Bryant’s office at (941) 723-4500 or [email protected].
