MANATEE COUNTY, FL (March 4, 2025) – The Manatee Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) is paying tribute to the memory of Army Specialist Nicholas Panipinto, supporting the designation of U.S. 19 between Palm View Road and Terra Ceia Road in his honor.

“This is a very small token but something that the state and Manatee County are happy to do,” said Manatee County Commission Chair George Kruse. “We are fortunate to have had Nicholas in our community and proud to keep his memory alive.”

On November 6, 2019, Army Specialist Nicholas Panipinto lost his life in a training incident while serving his country at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. During their 2024 session, the Florida Legislature acted to honor Specialist Panapinto by designating a section of U.S. 19 as "Army Specialist Nicholas Panipinto Memorial Highway."

“He’s a warrior,” said Manatee County District 4 Commissioner and Marine Corps Veteran Mike Rahn. “He’ll always be a warrior.”

At-Large Commissioner Jason Bearden–also a Marine Corps Veteran–was visibly emotional as he spoke directly to the Panipinto family gathered in the Commission Chambers. “It’s an honor to do this,” he said. “All I can say is thank you.”

The adoption of Resolution R-25-020 provides the County's support needed to confirm the designation and allow the State to place appropriate roadway markers. Members of the soldier’s family and friends were humbled and honored to witness the support of the board.

“Securing this memorial highway will ensure his legacy lives on forever,” said mom Kimberly Weaver.
