MANATEE COUNTY, FL (August 30, 2024) – Manatee County’s 3-1-1 system
—the central contact point for citizens to report any issues
—is going to extend operations over the holiday weekend.
This expanded citizen action center staffing is in response to a month of unprecedented rainfall, riverine flooding, and the potential for more weather impacts over the Labor Day Holiday.
“We want our citizens to know that we’re here for them,” said Manatee County Commission Chair Mike Rahn. “With the potential for more rain this weekend, we are here to help in any emergent situation.”
The ground in Manatee County is saturated, and monthly rainfall accumulation totals continue to increase county-wide. County rain gauges have measured between 23 and 28 inches of rainfall for the month of August—bringing yearly totals to over 60 inches in some areas.
Due to these conditions, regular afternoon thunderstorms will result in additional ponding of water in low lying areas. High water over roadways can be expected until runoff can drain through stormwater systems.
Please continue to monitor the weather throughout the weekend and reach out to Manatee 3-1-1 with any concerns.
Remember “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” where water is present over roadways.
