MANATEE COUNTY, FL (February 22, 2024) – The Powel Crosley Estate Foundation and the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are pleased to invite the public for free tours of the historic Powel Crosley Estate during a two-day open house event on March 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Formally known as Seagate and built in 1929, the house served as the winter home of Powel Crosley, an American innovator most revered for revolutionizing entertainment by manufacturing Crosley radios and owning the 500,000-watt station WLW, the most powerful of its time. A variety of Crosley radios, a Crosley sports car and memorabilia will be on display throughout the mansion.
“By once again opening the doors to the public, we also unlock and celebrate the rich history found within the Bradenton Area and the contributions Powel Crosley made to the radio industry while living here,” said Elliott Falcione, Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director.
At nearly a century old, the Powel Crosley Estate remains a robust property. The home now serves as a prestigious event space, most commonly hosting weddings. Just last year the Crosley received the 2023 Couples’ Choice award from Wedding Wire, as well as a Best of Weddings Award from The Knot.
Visitors can enjoy a docent-supported roaming tour throughout the historic mansion and the surrounding grounds. No reservations are needed for the open house dates, and there is no admission cost for this event. However, donations are appreciated. Concessions will be available for purchase on site.
“Our goal in holding these open houses at the Crosley is to give the public a new appreciation for our area,” said Manatee County Commissioner Mike Rahn. “The forward-thinking genius of Powel Crosley is something for all to enjoy.”
