MANATEE COUNTY, FL (February 25, 2025) – The Powel Crosley Estate Foundation and Manatee County Government are delighted to welcome the public for free tours of the historic Powel Crosley Estate during a two-day open house event on Tuesday, March 4, and Wednesday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Formally known as “Seagate,” the Mediterranean Revival-style mansion house built in 1929 once served as the winter home of Powel Crosley. The American innovator was most revered for revolutionizing entertainment, manufacturing Crosley radios and for owning the 500,000-watt station WLW, the most powerful of its time. The open house tours are a chance to view Crosley’s forward-thinking creations, including a variety of radios, a Crosley sports car and other memorabilia throughout the mansion.
At nearly a century old, the Powel Crosley Estate remains a robust property. The home hosted nearly 200 events in 2024 and now serves as a prestigious gathering space, most commonly as a wedding venue.
Visitors can enjoy a docent supported, roaming tour throughout the historic mansion and the surrounding grounds. No reservations are needed for the open house dates and there is no admission cost for this event, but donations are appreciated.
“These open houses are another way to bring together our community together to not only showcase the Crosley estate but also allow the public to step into the future from the past and gain a new appreciation for the area,” said Manatee County Commissioner Mike Rahn. “The timeless genius of Powel Crosley is something both residents and visitors can enjoy.”
